What is IVF
IVF is short for in vitro fertilization. This is a method of becoming pregnant where an egg is fertilized by sperm outside of the body. The resulting embryos can be transferred to the uterus with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy. The process is for couples experiencing difficulties conceiving, single women wishing to have a baby (through sperm donation), and same-sex couples.
Who Should Consider IVF?
- Women who have not conceived after 2 years of regular unprotected intercourse
- Women who suffer from endometriosis
- Women with premature ovarian failure (POF)
- Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
- Unexplained infertility
- Women with blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
- Male factor infertility, including poor sperm quality
- Women who have had their fallopian tubes removed
- Individuals with a genetic disorder
Pregnancy After Menopause
Menopause presents a natural barrier to conception. However, IVF can help women carry a healthy pregnancy to term even after menopause. If the uterus is prepared appropriately, a woman can receive embryos with the help of an egg donor.
ICSI: A Solution for Male Infertility
IVF not only helps with female infertility, but it can also treat male infertility. In such cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI) are used to inject the sperm directly into the egg cell. This is used in cases where the sperm has difficulty penetrating the egg on its own.
IVF can be a stressful experience for many couples; financially, physically and emotionally. That is why we also offer counselling and support. Whoever you are, you should never go through IVF on your own. We at FertiTravel guide and support you throughout the process, and we are also in contact with a network of psychologists.
